Fruit loops (and allies),
Yoyoyo! It’s KB, your purveyor of positive trans news. Drink some water & hug yourself: I have nothing but good news.
Now, onto the video!
My video this week centers Henry Zahid, an openly trans K-12 teacher in LA who fought for his job and (with the help of 2,000+ supporters) won!
Shoutout to the folks who ran a successful grassroots letter-writing campaign and the union who supported Teacher Henry (which is what they go by instead of honorifics). We love to see a teacher known for supporting queer and trans students stay at their post! This story shows that inclusive teaching and community organizing, works.
Now, onto the list!
Trans News That Doesn’t Suck: The List
Every two years, Texas has legislative sessions to decide on new state-wide laws. This year was particularly hard for LGBTQ+ Texans, as there were over 200 anti-LGBTQ+ bills introduced. Good news: the 2025 lege just ended, and 94% of those anti-LGBTQ+ bills did NOT pass!
For updates on the bills that did pass, and things you can do about them, follow Equality Texas and the Transgender Education Network of Texas. You don’t have to be local to Texas to help us out.
Moving on: For the second year in a row, Florida Pride marchers lit up the Acosta Bridge with high-powered, hand-held lights after the state continued to block the use of rainbow colors on lighting systems wired into its bridges. We love a petty workaround!
The City of Missoula, Montana has now made the pride flag one of its “official flags”! This comes the Montana passed a ban on displaying pride flags on city property and in public schools. With the city’s new designation, the state can’t tell them squat about it :) Again, we love a petty workaround!
I was on a podcast called Let’s Talk Memoir and talked about trans resistance :)
Salt Lake City did the same thing (and added the trans flag and flags representing Juneteenth and Black residents)!
There’s a Trans DIY Punk Festival that is sparking a movement.
HUGE: because of a federal judge’s ruling, federal prisons must continue providing gender-affirming care to trans inmates. I personally love this! People deserve dignity even behind bars.
The Puerto Rican Supreme Court says nonbinary folks can update birth certificates with X gender markers. Woohoo!
Bisexual singer-songwriter Beth McCarthy gave a trans fan a new name (by request) at a concert.
Media mogul TS Madison now has a day dedicated to her in DC.

Madonna has worn a Protect the Dolls T-shirt and posted it online. All proceeds for the shirt go to Trans Lifeline, a nonprofit that runs a crisis hotline by and for transgender people and that gives microgrants to trans people. You can buy one yourself here!
A Chicago LGBTQ+ community center has announced it will hold one of the country’s first 5K races centered on trans people.
A drag ban failed in Florida. and Texas. and Florida again. and Texas (again). Why do they keep trying this?
In 2023, the transphobic Governor of Utah ordered the Utah Health Dept to do a study on gender affirming care for trans kids. Well, they did it, and the study supports gender affirming care.
I love it when these bs accusations backfire. Transphobes: SCIENCE IS NOT ON YOUR SIDE!
A study shows that Trans people who receive gender-affirming care are less likely to get HIV.
Washington Governor Bob Ferguson signed a bill to stop schools from outing LGBTQ+ students to their parents into law. This is lovely!
A pastor learned more about God after her son came out as trans.
That’s all the news I have for you this week. There was… more than usual, which is good!
What did I miss? Is there any other good news you’d like to share? Let me know in the comments.
Till next time,
KB
