Assorted fruits,
Yoyoyo! It’s your good vibes dealer, KB Brookins. Take a breath & unclench that jaw. I have nothing but good trans news.
Let’s get into it!
Trans News That Doesn’t Suck: The Videos
I’ve got TWO videos for your today :) the first one is centering Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs, who vetoed THREE anti-trans bills. One would’ve banned trans folks from updating their birth certificates, and the other two targeted higher ed and workplace protections. Thank you, Mrs Hobbs for your allyship in PRACTICE!
Remember class, allyship is a verb. Ask yourself: what are you doing to take care of trans people this pride month? If the answer is “nothing,” don’t fret! Here are ten ideas I have:
Buy a trans person's art. A book, song, anything! For example, here’s a link to purchase my book. I just celebrated the one-year anniversary of it being out, and as I prepare for the paperback to come out, every sale matters tremendously <3
Gift that art to someone else!
Start following a trans advocacy organization in your city/state. Here is a list of one organization in each state. No excuses!
Go to an event that that organization is hosting.
When you see/hear someone being homophobic/transphobic, say something! literally if you don't, it's a high chance no one will.
Contact your elected officials to tell them to support pro-trans policies AND denounce anti-trans ones here.
Send a trans person money. I'm serious. we're literally poorer than most other demographics.
Learn the difference between sex and gender. Here’s a short video to start with!
Watch a documentary about the trans community. Two that I recommend: Disclosure (On Netflix) or Paris is Burning (on almost every platform).
Donate to an organization that supports trans folks in your city/state. Again, here is a list of one org in each state.
Anyway, here’s my next video :)
Another win in the courtroom: a Montana judge struck down a law that sought to gender-affirming care for trans youth. He found it biased, bogus, and unsupported by science.
Concurrently, Montana judges couldn’t even come up with ONE piece of evidence that anti-trans bathroom bans prevent violence against women. These anti-trans sentiments are NOT holding up in court, and we love to see it!
Now, onto the list!
Trans News That Doesn’t Suck: The List

Almost 10,000 cis women in the UK have signed a petition rejecting the UK’s recent transphobic Supreme Court ruling. Love this! Women in the US: please do this!
A federal court has temporarily blocked book bans and "Don't Say Gay" in Iowa. Woo!
Quakers in the UK refuse to exclude trans people from their facilities. Amazing! Religious groups in the US: stand with us like this!
Trans trailblazer Ts Madison was just honored by Washington DC with ‘Ts Madison Day.’ Love to see this <3
Trans women have found safety in a London soccer club after UK gender ruling.
Sir Ian McKellen is opening an all-trans and non-binary production of Shakespeare classic Twelfth Night.
That’s all the news I have for you this week.
What did I miss? Is there any other good news you’d like to share? Let me know in the comments.
Till next time,
KB
